The irony of heart rates and coffee breaks

Isn’t it funny how we constantly monitor patients’ heart rates but the second we take a coffee break, ours races like it’s running a marathon? I had a patient the other day who said she was only anxious about her appointment because she knew I’d be watching her heart rate. Here’s to the irony of caring so much about heart health, but needing that caffeine boost to keep us energized.

But isn’t it wild? I try to sneak in some deep breathing during my coffee breaks to calm the racing heart. It’s like our bodies can’t decide if they want the caffeine or peace.
