I’ve had the best luck landing neurosurg PA roles by keeping a one-page, procedure-forward CV plus a brief case log ready so I can apply within an hour — these listings can vanish faster than a post-call donut. If a post is older than 48 hours I still apply but also call HR/recruiter the same day; the AAPA Job Center alerts help me “apply promptly”: https://www.aapa.org/career-central/job-center/. For remote roles, they often want ICU or spine experience, so if that’s light I highlight call coverage, EVD care, and first-assist exposure as an alternative focus.
I set up Greenhouse/Lever instant alerts and keep a prewritten “48-hour availability + spine/cranial mix” blurb; I got my last neurosurg PA interview by replying 15 minutes after it posted and leaving a short voicemail for the chief PA. Caveat: some systems force the portal, but a same-day follow-up email to the recruiter (if listed) still bumped me up faster than waiting — like racing OR turnover.
I started getting callbacks faster by sending a PDF resume named ‘KSnowden_PA-C_Neuro.pdf’ with my NPI and active licenses at the top, then DM’ing the chief APP or practice manager on LinkedIn within 10 minutes with a 2–3 line ‘OR/call/clinic’ snapshot. Small caveat: many ‘remote’ listings end up triage-heavy with little first-assist, so ask about case mix and call up front — speed matters like OR turnover.
@ksnowden85 +1 — I add a one-liner at the top of my email with start date and call comfort: “Available 11/4; comfortable with cranial/spine call and ICU consults.” If no contact is listed, calling the hospital operator to reach the neurosurgery service coordinator the same day beats waiting — it’s like pre-charting your app.
I get quicker callbacks on these real-time posts by attaching a one-page “neuro case snapshot” (last 90 days: cranial/spine counts, call nights, EVDs) with my resume and adding the req# plus “ready to screen today” in the subject. Small caveat: I still submit through the ATS first so compliance tracks the application, then email the chief APP if listed.
